My First Article :-)

Hey everyone! I've taken over this website by default.  I welcome any suggestions you may have.  Email me at mickdotson@yahoo.com .  I'm working on making the pages a little more readable.  Be patient with me, I am an amateur website manager.  I have updated the Meet schedule and results page. I still have a lot to do.

So far this season we have won our first two meets.  The first against Grand Rapids Christian and the second against West Ottawa.  I forgot the score of the Grand Rapids Christian meet.  I think it was 100 something to 70 something.

The West Ottawa meet score was 99 to 87.  We started off by winning the 200 Medley relay in a state-qualifying time of 1:44.02.  Nick Walkotten won the 200 Free in a state-qualifying time of 1:45.13.  Fulmer? won the 200 IM in 2:05.15.  Dotson won the 50 Free in a state-qualifying time of 22.57.   Kovatch had an awesome performance in diving winning the event with 197 points.  Mike Anderson  won the 100 Butterfly in a state-qualifying time of 55.41.  Dotson placed 2nd in the 100 free with a state-qualifying time of 49.50.  Nick Walkotten easily won the 500 free in a state qualifying time of 4:51.23.  The team of Matt Anderson, Nollar, Dotson and Nick Walkotten won the 200 Free relay.  Fulmer won the 100 Backstroke in a state-qualifying time of 55.89.  Mike Anderson won the 100 Breaststroke with a state-qualifying time of 1:02.64.  Zokoe placed 2nd in this event.  The 400 Free relay placed 2nd.  If you see any errors, or have the names and/or times for any of the events please let me know.  I need to keep track of these things a little better.

Records Updated, Walkotten And Olympics, Justin Off To Ohio?

Posted 4/14/2003 - By Tri Le

The school records are updated but not the pool records. Anyone have a good spring break? I didn't go anywhere :(. In other news, congratulations to Nick Walkotten. He recently qualified for the Olympic Time Trials. Also, does anyone know if our Diving Coach, Justin Livingston, is moving to Ohio? I got unofficial word that he is from unknown sources. Tell me in person or e-mail me.

Get Ready For Next Year!

Posted 3/31/2003 - By Tri Le

Time to keep in shape everyone. I know some of you guys do track or swim and run outside of school. That's good. For all you off-season slackers, don't be a couch potato and get your butt off to run or swim a couple of miles. DO SOMETHING!!! I got the state times for next year and I also have some of the unofficial records.

Awesome Job State Swimmers

Posted 3/09/2003 - By Tri Le

Another congrats to Erik Williams for finishing 5th in the 200 Freestyle (1:43.15) and 4th in the 100 Butterfly (50.73) . Also, we can never forget congratulating Nick Fulmer for finishing 6th in the 200 IM (1:58.76) and 4th in the 100 Backstroke (53.44). Stupendous job to all state-qualifying swimmers in our team. Great Effort Guys!

Posted 3/02/2003 - By Tri Le

Good swim everyone!

we only got 4th place out of 7 teams at conference, we swam our hearts out. We know we got our glory during those two days. The time when the Grandville Pool Director told us that we came first and not the EK and Holland people, and when we won the 400 Free Relay in the finals. Those two will be in our memories forever... well maybe for another year. Sometime this week will be the Second Shave Meet which is those of you who almost made State can have a second chance in qualifying for this year's state meet. Also, we would be called up for a meeting to vote on next year's captains and this years award for the banquet. Our banquet, along with the volleyball teams', will be on Tuesday, March 11, 2003. It will be at 6:15 PM in the cafeteria.

Time To Kick Butt In Conference!!!!!

It's time to get some huge cuts in our best times. Lets all swim hard and hope that we place well in conference. Also, good job Freshmen and Sophomores in the Froshmore Meet in Grandville last week. Most of you guys cut your best times last week.

Jenison Beats Rockford For First Time In Years!

Posted 2/21/2003 - By Tri Le

We did it! For the first time in 10 years, we have defeated the Rockford Rams, 108-78. We wasted them. They should have expected the unexpected from us. Good job everyone, you guys all swam hard. Congratulations seniors on your hard work for the past four years. Your names will be in the Retired Team Members Hall of Fame. We're closing in on Conference and State so lets taper hard this week.

Time For Taper!

Only two more weeks of season left (Three for all you state swimmers)! This week is our revenge on Rockford and our senior night so lets all swim hard.

Swimming Season Off To A Good Start!

Posted 1/26/2003- By Tri Le

Even though we had tough losses against West Ottawa and Holland, our team is improving dramatically. There were many swimmers who had major cuts in their times, including myself :). We took 3rd in the Jenison Invitational (Not bad considering we were up against Brother Rice!).Congratulations everyone in contributing to the defeat against Grand Haven! I believe it is Brady's first OK-Red win in his coaching career! Another congrats to Nick Walkotten, who represented the United States of America in the Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney, Australia. Walkotten had phenominal times. He took 6th overall (1st in U.S) in the 200 Butterfly, 5th overall (2nd in U.S) in the 100 Butterfly, and 3rd overall in the 200 Free Relay, I think. We are 3-2 and we will be able to increase the number of wins soon! We are already halfway to the season (Times fly, dosen't it?). I'll update this year's records ASAP and also I updated the current team roster since few dropped out, fortunately for some ;).

Beginning of a New Season!

Posted 1/8/2003- By Tri Le

Our season starts with a meet against West Ottawa. This will be a tough team but I think we can pull it through if we swim real hard. The records are again updated thanks to Mr. Walkotten. Now the Jenison Swimming Records Board is now complete and updated. Thank You Mr. Walkotten! Good Luck and Swim Hard against West Ottawa!

Happy New Year!

State Qualifying Times Updated

Posted 10/28/2002- By Tri Le

The State Qualifying Times has been updated and you might like it. The state times are slower. In fact, for every 50 yards, the qualifying time is 1/4 second slower. For example for the 100 Butterfly, the time is exactly 1/2 second slower when you do the math. This will benefit for those who want to qualify for state. To see the times, click on the link that says "Qualifying Times & Records" in the menu.

Jenison Hires New Swim Coach

Posted 10/15/2002- By Tri Le

Our Coach Resigns

Posted 9/12/2002- By Tri Le

If you missed the meeting, here is the update: Andy Bouwens, our head coach of our successful swimming program for 4 great years has resigned his postition as head coach of our swim team. We will all miss Andy and wish him great luck in the future. We do not know our new head coach yet. As you know, our assisting coach, Aaron Portenga, has move to Grand Haven for a new teaching position and also, I think, to head coach the Grand Haven Boys Swim Team. We will all miss Portenga and wish him great luck in the future. We also don't have a new assisting coach yet. As we say farewell to our coaches, I like to remind all of you, with Andy's wishes, that you DO NOT quit the swim team because of his resignation. Andy says he will visit the swim team occasionally and will follow our swim team in the papers and I think Portenga will do the same too. Have a great and successful and happy, Andy! And you too Portenga! This will be a great lost to the Jenison Boys Swimming Team. Without them, we wouldn't be at the top. We will surely miss you guys.
